Skincare isn't just for women. Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, 40s or 50s, it's important to have an (effective!) skincare routine. Here we will guide you through the most important products that are essential to every man's skincare routine. We will also give you insight into the best practices and products that best suit your skin type, as well as give you our take on a skin care routine. So let's dive into the world of men's skincare!
First step in any skincare routine: Cleanse your skin
The first and most important part of any skin care routine is to cleanse your skin properly. Choose a mild face wash specially formulated for men to help remove dirt, excess oil and impurities. Gently massage the product into the skin and rinse thoroughly with warm water - finish with a cold washcloth to close the pores in the skin.
Moisture is key
Men's skin tends to be "rougher" and more prone to drying out, especially if you have stubble. Therefore, it is important to add sufficient moisture to your skin. Choose a good face cream specially formulated for men that nourishes, hydrates and protects your skin against dryness and early signs of aging. Apply the product after using a facial cleanser or shower, every morning and evening for best results.
Fight skin problems
If you experience skin problems such as dryness, oiliness or impurities, you can supplement your routine with specific products. If your skin is dry, you can use a moisturizer with extra moisturizing properties, e.g. a moisturizer plus . If your skin is oily, choose products that are light and non-greasy. If you experience blemishes or acne, a facial cleanser with anti-bacterial properties can be helpful.
Protect yourself from the sun
Whether it's summer or winter, it's important to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an appropriate SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and apply it daily. This will help prevent sun damage and premature aging. That is, using sunscreen will prevent you from looking older over time. The sun has a big effect on our ageing, including wrinkles.
Here's a quick overview of an easy skincare routine you can steal:
1. Use facial cleanser - also called Face Wash: The routine starts here. Use a facial cleanser every morning and evening. The product often comes with a jelly-like consistency, which must be rubbed well into the skin. It is then rinsed out with water. A good tip here is to use it in connection with the bath, it is much more practical since you are already standing under the shower.
2. Toner (optional): A toner is an optional step that can help restore the skin's pH balance and prepare it for subsequent products. Apply the toner to a cotton pad and gently dab it over your face. This step can be done after cleansing but before applying moisturizer.
3. Serum (optional, but highly recommended!): A serum is a light, concentrated liquid, typically designed to address specific skin concerns such as dryness, signs of aging, hyper pigmentation, or acne. It contains high concentrations of active ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins and peptides, which penetrate deep into the skin and provide targeted care. Serums have a light texture that allows them to penetrate deeper into the skin and work more effectively than thicker creams or lotions. The use of a serum can improve skin texture, even out skin tone and give a more youthful radiance. If you use serum, you should apply it before face cream/moisturizer and right after a face cleanser/Face Wash
4. Moisturizer: Use moisturizer in the morning or evening after washing your face. A little tip: Take a face cream with you to work and use it during the day. It provides freshness and helps against dry skin. Call it a little "life hack".
5. Eye cream (optional): An eye cream is made to care for and protect the delicate skin around the eyes. Apply a small amount of eye cream with gentle strokes around the eye area. The best time would be before you go to bed in the evening. Believe me - it can do something!
6. Sunscreen : Finish your morning skincare routine by using a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays and should be applied as the last step before going out in the sun. This part of the routine is of course more important in the summer, but you are exposed to solar radiation all year round. In addition, a moisturizer with SPF will be the best you can choose, because then you will get rid of the greasy feeling.
As you can see, you don't need to overdo your skin care. In fact, few products will be able to get you started on a sensible routine and the most important thing is to do it continuously. A good skin care routine not only makes your skin look better, but it also helps with self-understanding and gives the feeling of self-satisfaction. Isn't it just getting started? Yes it is! We are happy to help you.
